The summer began with lecture's, simultaneous matches and coaching his students in the United States. Some of his students (two brother's from Missouri) traveled to Ohio to have lessons over the board with their Coach, Goran; but most were in Ohio or nearby.
In addition to coaching his students, in May he played at the Chicago Open. One of his opponents was GM Michael Adams from England who has achieved several times, world number 4 in highest ranking and has achieved a peak Elo rating of 2755. He also played, GM Jiri Stocek and GM Victor Mikhalevski.
After winning the Cardinal Open in 2009, this year Goran shared 1-2 places with GM Alexander Golding in Dayton Ohio and took first place in the Columbus Open this year.
At the World Open, he was there to Coach his students.
